The following selections are my personal picks for the Top 10 Ultimate Love songs of all time, in no particular order.
Considering I’ve only chosen 10 songs, there will undoubtedly be some I have missed. Take a look at the following love songs and see if any hold meaning for you.
1. “Stuck on You” – Lionel Richie
“Stuck on you, I’ve got this feeling down deep in my soul that I Just can’t lose.”
An absolute favorite song of mine, I can’t help but shed a tear or two when I hear this tune on the radio. With endearing lyrics and heartfelt emotion, this song never fails to elicit an emotional response from me each time I hear it.
2. “Unchained Melody” – Righteous Brothers
“Oh, my love, my darling. I’ve hungered for your touch – a long, lonely time.”
Who can resist this classic love song? Throughout the years this song has managed to stand the test of time and remain a favorite of mine and, I believe, of many others. If the haunting melody isn’t enough to elicit a response, the emotional lyrics are sure to win you over.
3. “Always On My Mind” – Willie Nelson
“If I made you feel second best, girl I’m sorry I was blind. You were always on my mind.”
An endearing song of heartache and regret, it’s a classic ballad for those of us who have made stupid mistakes in love. Even though the words are definite tear-jerkers, he remains hopeful that his love hasn’t given up on him just yet.
4. “Let’s Stay Together” – Al Green
“Let’s, let’s stay together. Loving you whether, whether – times are good or bad, happy or sad.”
In a world where couples are constantly breaking up, getting back together, and splitting up again, this song reminds us that true love can and does exist. For me, this song reminds me to keep hope alive and realize that love can be ever-lasting, if only we try and make it so.
5. “Stand By Me” – Ben E. King
“No I won’t be afraid, no I won’t be afraid. Just as long as you stand, stand by me.”
No love song list would be complete without this classic by Ben E. King. Who can resist this beautiful tune, artfully arranged and wonderfully sung? The song tells of a man who knows he can face all obstacles just as long as his love remains faithfully by his side, and I think that’s something we can all relate to.
6. “Something” – The Beatles
“Something in the way she moves attracts me like no other lover.”
While The Beatles have quite a few songs that could make it on this list, “Something” won out over other songs for me. I can relate to this song in that it’s essentially about a man who loves this woman so deeply but simply can’t explain why. Reverse the gender roles, and I have been in this situation before. It’s a truly beautiful song.
7. “You’re My First, My Last, My Everything” – Barry White
“You’re my sun, my moon, my guiding star. My kind of wonderful – that’s what you are.”
Who doesn’t love a little Barry White? I couldn’t possibly make this list without including this popular song, one of my all-time favorites. It’s such a powerfully emotional song, and I’ll bet there have been many couples who have enlisted this as their “special song”.
8. “Unforgettable” – Nat King Cole
“Unforgettable, that’s what you are. Unforgettable, ‘tho near or far.”
I may be a little biased, considering Nat King Cole is one of my favorite singers, but I simply had to put this song somewhere on the list. To this day, I am amazed how much this song still means to me. It’s a simple tune, but sweet and poignant too.
9. “Can’t Help Falling in Love” – Elvis Presley
“Wise men say only fools rush in, but I can’t help falling in love with you.”
How many of us can relate to feeling powerful emotions (albeit, possibly love) within a short time of knowing someone? I believe this song can resonate with many of us, not only because of the heartfelt words, but also for the simple message that love may be scary, but regardless, it should be embraced whole-heartedly.
10. “All Out of Love” – Air Supply
“I’m all out of love, what am I without you? I can’t be too late to say that I was so wrong.”
A poignant tale of love gone wrong, this song speaks to many of us who wish we could bring back the one we pushed away. It’s a heartfelt ode to the woman he wronged with his selfish ways, but throughout the song you gain a sense of hope that the relationship will work out in the end.
While I couldn’t possibly include every great love song on this list, I’ve touched on a few classics that have always managed to make me smile, cry, or believe in the power of love.
