6 Proven Steps That Can Prevent Heart Attacks in Women

Ever wondered how much of your heart health is within your control? Well… a lot it seems, according to a new study published in the Journal of American College of Cardiology.

According to the research, it helps to start taking care of your
ticker sooner rather than later: Young women who obeyed six
heart-healthy rules can all but heart-attack proof themselves.

The study analyzed questionnaire data acquired from more than 70,000
nurses over two decades, all of whom were 37-years of age at the
beginning of the study. Researchers identified six behaviors that could
significantly cut the risk of heart attack which included :

  • being a non-smoker
  • having a healthy BMI
  • taking part in at least 2.5 hours of exercise each week
  • watching TV for 7 hours or less each week
  • limiting alcohol to less than a drink each day
  • following a healthy diet.

While the heart-healthy behaviors may not come as much of a surprise,
researchers found that the women who stick to all of the guidelines had
a 92 percent lower risk of developing heart disease. Furthermore,
researchers suggest that 70 percent could have avoided a heart-attack if
they had adhered to each of these guidelines.

The rules could help women in their 30s and 40s beat heart disease by
making positive lifestyle choices as early as possible. Professor
Chomistek, leading the research said, “This is an important public
health message. Women should begin following these lifestyle practices
early in life, especially if they are already taking medication for a
risk factor such as hypertension or high cholesterol. It’s an easy way
to prevent future heart trouble.”

staying heart-healthy, at least you’re now only six steps away… all
