Foundation Made Simple

Foundation can help even out your complexion and leave you looking flawless, but only if you know how to properly apply it. If you use the wrong color or too much foundation, you’ll be left looking like a clown — and no woman wants that!

Luckily, it’s fairly simple to learn to apply foundation like a pro. By learning how to choose the correct shade and proper application techniques, you’ll look flawless without looking overdone.

Choosing the Right Shade

Choosing the Right Shade

Every woman should know how to choose the right shade of foundation, but surprisingly many women are not using the correct color for their skin type.To find the right shade, visit a department store or drugstore that offers testers. Pick a few colors that look good and apply a thin line of foundation on your jawbone. The color that blends in with your natural skin tone will be the foundation you choose; the right foundation should be almost a perfect match with your natural skin color. If need be, you can even buy two foundation shades and blend them together to get the perfect shade for your skin.

For best results, test foundation shades in natural lighting. Artificial lighting can make all makeup, especially foundation, look distorted. Now that you know how to choose the right color, you’ll need to learn how to apply it!

How to Apply Foundation

How to Apply Foundation

Start with a clean face. I recommend using moisturizer or a foundation primer before you apply foundation — a base will help set the color and keep it from melting off your face during the day.

Now, most women don’t need to apply foundation over their entire face; some do, but I always concentrate around the inner corners of my nose, around my eyes and my chin. If you want to apply foundation over your entire face, invest in a few quality makeup sponges and dot foundation over your nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead.

Blend the foundation together using a makeup sponge, taking care to cover your hair and jawlines as you go. For extra staying power, apply a dusting of pressed powder to help set the makeup.

With these simple tips, it won’t be that difficult to apply foundation like a pro!
